A Generation III nuclear reactor is a development of any of the Generation II nuclear reactor designs incorporating evolutionary improvements in design which have been developed during the lifetime of the Generation II reactor designs, such as improved fuel technology, passive safety systems and standardized design.

Generation III+ reactor designs are generally extensions of the Generation III concept which include advanced passive safety features. These designs can maintain the safe state without the use of any active control components.

  • AP1000.
